Thoughts

It's a prequel to the Megan Fox and Shia Labeouf led transformers. Which I think is a good idea as I felt that the transformer sequels hasn't really delivered much compared to when it first came out. However coming back to this I must say John Cena can not act period. He should be banned from acting. The main story revolves around Hailee, Bumblebee and the challenges which they face. I felt it had a bit of 'Short circuit' theme going on which was also a great 80s movie. The supporting cast did an ok job, the story development was also ok as was the acting and directing. I think that Hailee shouldn't have been cast as the lead because I felt that transforms is a guy film which would appeal to boys playing with robots and cars. In this version, they are trying to appeal to the female audience. I didn't like it and it lets the whole story down. I do think that the film industry is actively trying to blur down the gender divide of men and women.

Its almost as if soon we won't have masculinity and femininity any more, but they both will be replaced with the idea of gender neutral. Long gone are the days which was a guy or a girl movie. See the movie industry can make more money and market their film if it's a gender neutral film as both men and women would go as compared to if it was just a guy or girl movie. Having said that there is nothing wrong in having the female lead but it's just strange to see a guy portrayed as a girl and the girl as a guy or just plain neutral. Movies which had a male lead from the beginning like The Bourne Legacy, James Bond or Transformers should not be changed half way through. Women have a different level of sensitivity and I don't mean that women shouldn't be lead at all. I think that women lead should be also built right from the beginning like it was done in Millenium series or in Red Sparrow, where female roles were phenomenal. In conclusion, I would say it's a movie to watch in the house or maybe wait for it to come on to TV or satellite. It's not worth going to the cinema as such. There are some special effects but I felt that it does not remain true to its core.

Thoughts

And again I'm the one who didn't watch any of the previous parts of the movie. In the time when Transformers movies were popular, I was interested into much more girly stuff. And I never really got that fascination, even in this movie I felt it was made for 10-years-old boys who like cars, but are interested in girls as well. The change (in my opinion that was a good change) brought us Hailee Steinfeld, who in contrast to Megan Fox is not just a bimbo, Hailee the singer, Hailee the actress. Or is she an actress? Maybe she's not the worst actress I have ever seen, but certainly, she can't kill 2 birds with the same stone. Hailee the singer is doing quite all right, she has some kids who follow her Instagram and listen to her albums, but putting her into the sequel of that kind of a manly movie as a lead was a purely marketing trick. The producers are aware that the generation who was raised on the first parts of Transformers, most likely will not watch that, even if they would, then just because of sentiment. But the younger audience is not hooked on to this yet. So the perfect trick is to put there someone who is famous in the 13-18 age range and movie will do good.

We can't blame this poor girl for playing her role, she just did it for money, but we can blame production team who did not control their greed and just simply manipulated younger kids into watching this movie to 'support' their idol singer Hailee.

Other aspects of a movie like playing the Smiths or changing the music by Bumblebee were a bit cringy for 2018. Special effects were great, and acting of Hailee and John Cena, well, can be worked on.

Who to go with? Kids, (because of Hailee), husband/boyfriend (because of cars), wife (if you wanna sleep on the couch)
